The Strength of Your Community

Care Collective began operations in 2023, with our first diapers distributed in March and period kits entering the community in September. Which raises the question: What did we get done last year?

First things first, we actually got started, and that isn’t a small task. We hired staff, applied for nonprofit status, submitted grant applications, welcomed volunteers; the list goes on.

About halfway through the year, we moved into a warehouse space and received our first bulk purchase of thousands of diapers and period products. We got to answer a lot of exciting questions like: “Where do all these diapers go?” and “How do we know when to place a second order?” and “No, seriously, where do these diapers go?”

The logistical challenges didn’t stop us, though! In 2023, we distributed more than 100,000 products for free! And who exactly did these products go to? Part of the magic of Care Collective is that we don’t precisely know.

The folks who received these products got them during early childhood mobility classes at Rootead, at after-school programs with Fire and JABS, directly to their homes with the help of the BLM Diaper Train, as part of gender-affirming care at Outfront, or through a dozen other avenues!

Care Collective isn’t just about our staff, as much as we love and appreciate every single one of them. It’s about our partner organizations, the communities they’re a part of, and the collective that each of these parts forms together.

We are proud of the work we got done with our eleven partners and cannot wait to double, or maybe even triple, it in this next year.
