Astrology, Tampons, and New Beginnings
April is off to a weird start: Mercury is in retrograde, something weird happened to the sun, and a new person is hanging around the Care Collective warehouse. Let’s chat about all of these things in reverse order.
First off, we just hired our new Program Manager! Her name is Jordan, and we could not be more excited to have her. Born and raised in Kalamazoo with a background in childcare, Jordan is close to our community and vision. In her spare time, she is the Loy Norrix cheer team coach!
Being the Program Manager means you might not see Jordan all the time, but she will work closely with our new and existing partners to grow Care Collective’s services. Having someone dedicated to our partners means we can invest more time in responding to feedback and pivoting our methods to serve our community better.
With March behind us, we also mark the end of our first quarter. So far this year, we’ve distributed 120,741 diapers and 31,153 period products, putting us on track to break half a million products in 2024. This would not have been possible without the 96 volunteers this year, who contributed 170 volunteer hours.
For many people, the solar eclipse marks a period of newness, a time to bring forward beginnings. However, Mercury in retrograde is supposedly a time of backsliding, falling out, and failure. We don’t know what the stars have in mind for us, but we are choosing to forge ahead and continue doing our best.
If you’re in the business of defying celestial bodies or potentially endorsing their best wishes, we would love to have you along for the next steps of our journey. We hope you feel renewed as we do.
